Queen Victoria School has over the years produced many excellent exponents of music for the Great Highland Bagpipe. This would in no Way be possible Without dedication to the task and nurturing of pupils by the Various tutors of the period. Many pupils on completing their school education chose to further their careers in the armed forces and in researching material for this book it Was found that no fewer than 22 Boys attained the rank of Pipe Major in Various regiments of the British Army and Commonwealth. The finest example I would say is that of the late Pipe Major Angus MacDonald MBE 1st BN. Scots Guards whos achievements in both the competitive field and musical composition are self explanatory. Eleven Boys attained the rank of Drum Major. It is a record with which the School and Old Victorians should be proud of. The tunes chosen are mixture of some that are well known although the majority are as yet unpublished All tunes bar one are compositions by former pupils or tutors at the school ..' Jack Quinn of The Stirling Arms Dunblane' is a tune composed by the late Jimmy Shand and dedicated to Jackie Quinn the then mine host at that establishment and an Old Victorian. In 1996 the school became Co-educational. In the school year 2001-2002 the first girl Drum Major. Lindsey Farquharson and the first girl Pipe Major. Lynsey MacAulay were appointed. The occasion was marked by the composing of two tunes by Donald MacDonald an Old Victorian and were presented to both girls by The Old Victorians Association. It is hoped that the variety of tunes in the book will appeal to the piping fraternity and Lovers of music of the Bagpipe. It is the intention of the Old Victorians Association to publish further books in the series from the collection of tunes submitted and held on file at the present time. We wish to acknowledge those who have contributed by subscribing to this collection and submitting tunes for their inclusion. To the College of Piping Glasgow. The Piping Centre GLasgow. and Mr Bruce Campbell of Highland Media Group. for their assistance in allowing the association through the pages of their Various publications to reach a wider audience. To William MacDonald.(Benbecula).for proof reading the manuscripts and critique prior to publication. To Old Victorian Donald MacDonald.(2349) Inverness. who's wish it was for this book to be published. For compiling, collating and progressing the work through its various stages to completion. The copyright for tunes composed by Donald MacDonald. Pipe Major William MacColl and Tom Williamson have been passed to The Old Victorians Association. Printed and Published by Oueen Victoria SchooL.'Old Victorians Association'.
